Research Interests:

Dr. Slaughter's research centers on the integration of micro and nanofabrication concepts with life science principles to develop innovative devices to deliver therapuetics to target sites within the body to enable the body to heal. Specific research areas include biosensors and bioelectronics, BioMEMS, cell-instructive adhesive materials for regenerative medicine, wound healing, and biomaterials for modulating inflammation and infection. Other research areas focus on improving the diagnosis and treatment of diabetes, neurological diseases and the detection of volatile organic compounds in trauma patients as well as the detection of biochemical threats, thereby increasing awareness of the condition and reducing decision response time. These efforts have led to the development of four different medical and bio-defense research areas.
